The starting price of HK$2,500, seven-in-ten success figure, two-week-to-one-month timing and processing in Shenzhen describe the historical report. ★ A Professional Yet Affordable Saviour for Hard Disk Data
When important business content stored on hard disks or other media suddenly becomes unreadable because of a fault or an accident, and no backup has been made, companies are often at a loss. But as long as they know where to find data recovery services, important data that seemed beyond rescue may well be recovered.
Benjamin Wong, General Manager of Vector Data Recovery (HK) Company Limited, believes that many companies would like to know about their data services, so that they can turn to them straight away should the need arise.
Taking the worry out of data rescue
Benjamin Wong, General Manager of Vector Data Recovery (HK) Company Limited, said that whether it is an ordinary computer hard disk, a server RAID hard disk or even a micro memory card, they can rescue the data on it. He further explained that their hard disk data recovery service reaches down to the physical hardware layer: for example, if the hard disk motor has a problem, the hard disk makes noises, the heads are damaged or even the motherboard cannot recognise the hard disk, they have ways to fix it. The company has cleanroom laboratories in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, but as Shenzhen is the closest, they naturally send Hong Kong customers’ faulty data storage media to Shenzhen for data rescue.
In fact, besides relieving data rescue worries, Wong added, they can also thoroughly destroy the data on hard disks that companies no longer use before they are disposed of, so that it can never be recovered, preventing sensitive business information on these hard disks from falling into the wrong hands. This is especially important for firms providing legal, accounting, financial and similar services.
Fair charges give customers confidence
SMEs now know that recovering data from a broken hard disk is not hopeless, but the size of the “surgery fee” is still a factor that influences whether they use these services. Wong said that for ordinary computer hard disks, the most common requests for help, they charge according to three capacity groups: below 120GB, 120GB to 300GB, and above 300GB, starting from as little as HK$2,500, which is really not a high threshold for SMEs. Moreover, charging by capacity tier and giving a quotation in advance lets customers know clearly what the charging standard is, and gives them more flexibility in choosing whether to use the service.
More importantly, Vector Data Recovery does not charge customers an inspection fee, and it only charges once it has rescued the data the customer needs, so customers feel it is fair and are more confident about turning to them for help. As for cases where the data rescue “surgery” fails, Wong pointed out that if the heads have scratched the surface of the hard disk platter, the data cannot be recovered; in addition, if the hard disk model is too old and no supporting parts are available, the data cannot be recovered either.
Of the cases currently brought to Vector Data Recovery for help, about seven in ten have their data successfully rescued. In general, a data rescue “surgery” takes between two weeks and one month, depending on where the problem lies.
