Data destruction and information-destruction services in Hong Kong
Vector provides data-destruction services in Hong Kong, also referred to as information-destruction services, including software data clearing, degaussing of compatible magnetic media, and physical destruction or shredding of storage media. When a storage device is to be reused, resold or disposed of, please first provide the media type, quantity, device condition and data-confidentiality requirements so that the processing method and quotation can be confirmed.
Our data-destruction and degaussing services are performed in accordance with the information-security management requirements of ISO/IEC 27001:2022.
Data clearing / data erasure
Depending on the device condition and supported functions, data erasure (also called data wiping) is performed using software-based clearing or the device’s built-in clearing functions. If a hard drive or SSD is intended to be kept for reuse, first confirm its model, the supported clearing functions and the completion result. Ordinary file deletion or quick formatting should not directly be treated as evidence that data clearing has been completed.
Hard-drive and tape degaussing
We provide treatment for magnetic storage media suitable for degaussing, such as compatible mechanical hard drives and tapes. Degaussing does not apply to SSDs, USB flash drives or SD memory cards; appropriate erasure or physical-destruction methods should be assessed separately for these media. Whether degaussing is suitable must first be confirmed by the media type and compatibility.
Checking the results of data clearing, erasure and destruction
Data sanitization of storage media uses clearing, erasure or destruction methods as needed to reduce the risk that data on the storage media may be accessed or recovered without authorisation. The processing method should suit the media type, data-confidentiality requirements and reuse or disposal arrangements.
After processing, the completion status and results should be checked to assess whether the required objective has been achieved. If a processing record is needed, please request it and confirm the document contents when arranging the service.

Storage-media shredding and physical destruction
We provide physical-destruction or shredding services for storage media intended for disposal. Storage-media shredding is a physical-destruction method; treated media cannot be retained for reuse. HDDs and SSDs have different storage structures. Please provide the media type and quantity so that the applicable processing method and acceptance requirements can be confirmed.
